One of my most favorite sea animals. The cuttlefish. They are molluscs (related to squids and octopuses). There are over 120 species of cuttlefish and this one here is called a pajama squid or cuttlefish due to it’s stripes and lets not forget that this one is poisonous. Cuttlefish are amazing creatures and they are known as the chameleons of the sea because of their unique ability to change their skin color and texture to match their surroundings and environment and to communicate with each other. The pigmented chromatophores above a reflective layer of iridophores and leucophores in their skin allow them to have these unique ability.
I remember visiting the cuttlefish exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium three years ago and I was so fascinated with them that I didn’t want to leave.
